MacGregor won the scratch prize with rounds of 71 & 67 for a total of 138, Williams took second place with 66 & 73, totalling 139, and Harry Konig was third with 70 & 71, totalling 141.

Williams, with birdies on the second, fifth, sixth and ninth, set the pace during the morning round, reaching the turn in five under par 31 strokes. Turning for home, disaster struck when he dropped two strokes on the tenth, but with three birdies and a dropped stroke on the last hole, he played the back nine holes in 35 strokes for a gross 66, 65 net to lead by two. Scratch player Sandy Kirton was in second place on 67, followed by Adam Taylor with 70 gross, 68 net. Last year’s winner Ross Palin was in fifth place on 69 net

It was all change in the afternoon as McGregor, plus 2 handicap, leapt seventeen places up the leader board with a round of 67 gross to win the scratch prize, but finish third in the competition on 142.  Pritchard also jumped twenty-one places with a round of 68 gross, 67 net, finishing second in the competition on 141, but it was Williams’s day.

Williams was out in 34 gross, with birdies on the fourth and ninth. Turning for home, he birdied the tenth but dropped strokes on the next three holes. He settled to par the next three holes, but dropped another stroke on the seventeenth. His nerve held to par the final hole and take this prestigious title by four strokes.

Chris Williams from Minchinhampton Golf Club in Gloucestershire put net rounds of 65 & 72 together for a total of 137 to win the 36-holes John Westlake Trophy by four strokes at Trevose. Ben Pritchard, Parkstone Golf Club, Dorset, was second on 141 and Cornwall county team member Rob MacGregor, Tehidy Park, who finished second last year, finished third on 142.
