Sponsored by Callaway Golf, Srixon, St. Austell Brewery and Peter Millar Clothing, the event was open to amateurs and professionals. This year 48 pairs, including 27 professionals, played 18 holes each day with 2 ball better-ball day 1; rye greensome day 2; foursomes day 3; and pairs aggregate day 4. Additionally, professionals competed in a 36 hole individual competition run concurrently with the main event.

The first day of the championship opened in bright sunny conditions with a gentle breeze. The pairings of Harrison and Conroy, Mewton and Downing and Slater and Bullock were off to a roaring start with a net 62. Keith Clinnick and Steve Richardson were two behind on 64.

Heavy rain greeted the players until about lunchtime on the second day but it cleared later to settle with a gentle breeze. Harrison and Conroy added 68 for a total of 130 to take a two stroke lead over Mewton and Downing with Slater and Bullock on 134.

Day three was fine and dry with a stiff wind and the roles were reversed as Mewton and Downing bettered Harrison and Conroy to take a slender half point lead. Chris and Robert Freeman moved up the leader-board into third place on 203, displacing Slater and Bullock.

The final day opened in dry conditions, but with a very strong south easterly wind. Every stroke would count from each pairing but that did not deter the players. The Father & Son Hilton partnership produced the lowest total of the day to move up into fourth place on 356. Slater and Bullock retrieved third place on 355 and Mewton and Downing only just failed in their bid for glory. That honour, after a well fought battle, went to Harrison and Conroy with their score of 350.5.

This was the 28th running of the tournament which continues to go from strength to strength, attracting a stellar cast of top professionals and amateurs alike. With the focus on competitive golf on the course and high octane, social fun off it, the event remains a truly unique fixture in the golfing calendar.

On behalf of everyone at Trevose we would like to extend a huge thanks to all competitors and sponsors for supporting the event and making it such a great success once again…not forgetting the amazing Paul Dobie for entertaining everyone in the Clubhouse each night (and the cameo performance from Cornwall’s favourite son, Johnny Cowling!).
